Coconut Oil: The Miracle Oil

We all have at least heard of coconut oil, it can be used for cooking, for skin and even for hair. Coconut oil is made of copra or dried coconut flesh. It has many benefits for the body both inside and out. This might be because it is made up of healthy fats including caprylic acid, lauric acid, and capric acid. Extra Virgin unrefined organic coconut oil has the most benefits.

These benefits include:

  • antimicrobial
  • antifungal
  • has antioxidants that help smooth the skin
  • helps with burns, eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis
  • great all natural conditioner, can also help with dandruff
  • reduces inflammation
  • great moisturizer and face cleanser
  • improves digestion by helping absorb vitamins, calcium, and magnesium
  • helps with blood pressure by increasing HDL
  • helps with UTIs by acting as a natural antibiotic and clearing bacteria
  • helps with bruises and speeds up healing process of damaged tissues
  • forms a protective layers over the infected body part from dust, bacteria, fungi, air
  • has a natural SPF of 4
  • filled with vitamin E, vitamin K, and other minerals like iron

In general it is not only filled with fatty acids, 90% saturated fats, but also fatty alcohols. Provides essentials proteins and highly effective in aiding in protein loss. This is one reason why it helps with hair loss and hair re-growth. Excellent massage oil. Effective moisturizer for all skin types, from oily to dry skin.

Here are some of my favorite ways to use coconut oil:

  • lice and dandruff treatment- massage into scalp and massage into the ends
  • body oil- apply onto wet skin after a shower and pat dry
  • cuticle oil- apply at the base of the nails, will also help your manicure last longer
  • lip balm- natural remedy for chapped lips
  • makeup brush cleaner- use 2 parts antibacterial soap 1 part coconut oil to clean
  • makeup remover- easy to remove makeup, especially waterproof makeup
  • face moisturizer- can be used as a primer under foundation for that smooth skin
  • body moisturizer- leaves skin glow-y not lotion-y
  • under eye cream- dab on under eye bags and fine lines

These are just MY favorite ways to use coconut oil. The possibilities are endless. This oil has so many benefits with very little side effects. The main side effect is allergy may occur if you are allergic to coconuts. Always remember when using on skin to do a patch test before using all over.

6 months !

Wow I am almost in tears as I type this. So much has changed in these past six months. I am so happy to say I am now six months seizure free. To some it means nothing, but those who suffer from epilepsy they know how big of a milestone this may be. Last Halloween I remember munching out on candy and watching every 80’s horror film you could imagine, that’s about it.¬† The next morning I had an epileptic episode. I don’t remember anything but waking up in a hospital with my family all around me.

Fast forward to six months later! So much has changed in the past six months. I have had some of my worst days and some of my best days.¬† I am taking my medication regularly, trying holistic remedies, sleeping every night, drinking more water, and exercising regularly. Cutting out all the toxic people out of my life has helped a lot too. Every little bit helps to help maintain a healthy life. I am not only healthier but happier. Being healthy has made me happier, and being happy has made me healthier. Not going to lie, taking my medication every night sucks, but trying out all different natural or holistic remedies has not only been fun but I have learned a lot. remember everyone’s body is different and you should always consult with your doctor (some you might need a prescription).

Favorite natural treatments:

  • yoga
  • CBD
  • massages
  • baths
  • medical marijuana
  • tea
  • vegan

Some I hated:

  • acupuncture
  • ¬†chiropractor

Hey that is just some of my experiences. I am always trying new things and I swear just sitting by the beach for a day and just listening to the waves crash cures any anxiety I have building. Even taking a weekly¬† “mental health day” and drawing a long bath and slapping on a face mask can really make a difference. I couldn’t have made it without my friends and family’s endless support. Trying to live a normal life is hard when you don’t drive but watch out because I’m hitting the roads! Every day is a struggle but I am truly happy to hit this milestone. This is only one small step, but every step is progress!

Ugh As If!

So I’m spoiled by my dad. Hence this amazing collaboration came to be. Can you take a guess where my inspiration cane from? Total 90s, clueless, and¬†anime all the way. I just wanted to have a fun and beautiful photoshoot with my dad. I think we were successful but you be the judge ! All photo credit to my dad ! Not only did we take some pictures we enjoyed the food and¬†eveything the youth fair has to offer. I will never complain spending some time and throwing together something with my dad, what can I say I’m a daddy’s girl. I had a blast in general but I definitely enjoyed the food! What is your favorite fair food?

lush haul

Lush hauls, a two for one! my package came around the same time I went to my local lush store. So extra lush for me! I’m never going to complain about too much lush, this just means both the lush easter and mothers day collection will be bundled up.

Baa Bar- a returning favorite, however I remember last year it having violet. This year it  shares the scent of twilight. Not complaining I mean look at that face. This cutie will set you off to dream land. Twilight is what helps me sleep when nothing else can so I grabbed like 10 of these because they have now become a staple in my bath routine!

Purple drain- spicy minty goodness. I have been favoriting minty baths lately so this one caught my attention! Purple, spicy, minty, and hydrating, what is there not to love? Even the name is perfect.

Citrus are doing for themselves- soft citrus with out being over powering.  Man has lush been coming out with the longest product names, or is it just me? Very surprising how the lemon comes through as light and refreshing. A nice bright bubbleroon for a morning bath.

Madam President- way too strong of a citrus scent. Not a bad smell, just too strong for me, a very pretty bath bomb. I will be gifting this one as it is just not for me.

Incredible Mom- a soft floral citrus. I like this one because if the cape. Duh! All moms are super heroes. This bath bomb is not only pretty it also smells great, so that make it’s a true hero.

Golden egg- candy scented glitter covered goodness. This is a bath bomb melt covered in glitter. Nothing is better than glitter, especially when it’s plastic free. You had me at glitter, but this bad boy smells like candy. The cocoa butter and citrus gives it the caramel candy scent. A special treat.

Cream egg- spotted minty creamy delight. The bright colors are a delight. They really transform into a spring wonderland. the minty scent is so soothing. Can you tell I have a migraine while sniffing this? I regret only getting one.

April Showers- this musky violet bath bomb is too cute with cocoa butter pink and purple inserts it’s almost worth the rain. The violet really stands out to me in this one. I love violets so I may be a little impartial. This cutie is simple but not to be forgotten.

Poisson D’avril- spicy and sweet, but a fish? Yes a beautiful red and gold fish. Two contrasting colors, just as these are two contrasting scents. Spicy pepper and neroli, so different, yet come together so perfectly to form this fish. This quickly and strangely became my favorite from the range.

Museum of Ice Cream Miami

Pastels, pink palm trees, sprinkles, swings, and of course ice cream! I know what you are thinking a sprinkle pool ?! Yes! a Sprinkle pool! Four floors of ice cream heaven, they have a different flavor on each floor. Every floor not only beautiful but fun to play in! Brings out the inner child and ice cream lover in any one!

Running around eating ice cream, throwing sprinkles I felt like a princess with pink every where! I honestly was in a pastel wonderland. There were different flavors to try on each floor soft serve, melted vanilla, mochi (Japanese ice cream), and chocolate with whipped cream. My favorite was the mochi, I will be getting more soon! Although every floor is beautiful, the best part is you guessed the sprinkle pool. Time is limited and the sprinkles aren’t biodegradable, but it’s a sprinkle pool! Everything was beautiful and eye catching. I was memorized from the moment I walked in to the moment I stepped out the gift shop. It was about much more than ice cream, there were facts all over the walls, there was kinetic sand you can play with, even a ping pong ball table. Theres much more than meets the eye. The ice cream doesn’t taste bad either.

This was a sensory overload. I loved every minute of it. Everyone should experience an ice cream wonderland. I heard they are working on making the sprinkles biodegradable, that shows they are listening to our concerns! Every floor revealed something new and even prettier, you almost didn’t know what to expect! So much creativity went into every detail and who would have thought a museum of ice cream could be so beautiful and tasty at the same time.

soak and unwind

Whipped soap? I was so intrigued I had to order it. Boy am I glad I did. So soft on the skin with gentle exfoliating, The whipped salt scrub is exfoliating with a slight lather. i was excited to try a different brand and switch things up. I also ordered an aloe lotion, light and the scent lasts for hours without being too heavy or over bearing. The best part ? The order came wtih a little spoon to scoop out the soap.

Kimono Flower – Jasmine petals, mandarin, bergamot, raspberry, ylang ylang, gardenia and pink orchid

This lotion was a light citrus and jasmine blend. Glides on smooth and doesn’t feel too heavy. Perfect for after the shower. Reminds me of the perfect spring afternoon.

IMG_9162

Back To Black – Fresh earth aka dirt blended with garden mint, basil, lemon blossom and sage

I personally love to exfoliate so I was excited to add a whipped scrub to my collection. The black sea salt is gentle on the skin and creates a slight lather. There is a slight minty scent, I picked up more of the sage.

img_9160.jpg

Blue Skies – Citrus, anise, jasmine, lavandin, warm musk and cedarwood

This whipped soap had some jojoba beads and an embed in it. It was really cute. I was expecting it to smell more like the lush version of blue skies fluffy clouds’ but this is not bad. The cedarwood and citrus blend together nicely.

Bubble Gum Machine – Sweet and juicy bubble gum

The best for last! Look at those layers, blue, pink and yellow! Smells just like bubble gum. Good enough to eat. This was definitely my favorite of the bunch. I have been leaning towards sweeter scents lately, not sure why. The colors are beautiful too. This one is packed full of moisture and screams happiness!

I was pleased with my haul of soak and unwind   some of the scents were more musky than I hoped but overall I do enjoy whipped soap. I am glad to have tried out this vendor. Quick shipping and good products.. I love how soft my skin feels. I also love using them as an alternative to shaving cream. They really are versatile and smell pretty amazing.

Tampa 2k18

This January I travel from Miami to Tampa, it was my first time ever visiting this beautiful city. It was a bittersweet trip. I was happy to be able to spend time with my family and get closer to my cousins. I also went to Busch Gardens for the first time!

So not going to lie, I had a blast at Busch Gardens. The roller coasters were a blast. My favorite was by far Montu. Cheetah was pretty bad ass too. We got to drink AND ride roller coasters ? Yes please ! I didn’t ride Sheikra because¬†I hate drops…bummer I know. The park itself is vibrant, colorful filled with plants and wild life. We were lucky enough to go on a weekend with amazing weather, no rain and it was cold. As an animal lover I was skeptical about going to a place where they keep animals, but hey I have seen worse. I got to feed kangaroos and hey peep that hippo butt. It was fun running around the park with my family, we even took grandma. It’s safe to say we all had a good time drinking, riding, and being tourists in our state. A Floridan’s specialty, am I right?

Here is the YouTube video I have been promising forever:

Now the reason I was in Tampa wasn’t the happiest. That’s why I said it was a bittersweet trip. In my last post I stated I don’t like to share my personal life but here I go again. I was up in Tampa for a celebration of life for my cousin who passed of this disease. I was lucky to have the opportunity to celebrate his life. I was also lucky enough to get closer to family. In the past year I have lost two people to ALS.¬†Below¬†I am going to include the link to donate to the ALS association. Feel free to donate as little or as much as you can, any little bit helps.

Lush Delight Bath Oil

Lush introduced the US to their skin loving bath oils. Now these had been available through the Lush kitchen and Lush UK. For those of us over the pond this gives us more chances to see them up close before purchasing or risking them melting in shipping! I had ordered a bunch of bath oils and had only tried two and did not like them very much. So I am giving them another try!

I decided to give delight bath oil a try before giving up on lush’s bath oils all together. I mean with all the skin loving butters packed into these little guys I couldn’t resist. Delight is lemon scented. A sparkly, spicy little guy. I paired him with snow fairy, for a very sparkly, sweet and spicy, citrusy bath. I made sure the water was really hot, to ensure it would melt the bath oil, then dropped it in. At first it sank to the bottom and all the glitter fell off and also sank to the bottom. It took a while to disolve, there were beads of oil slowly forming on the top of the water but any one that knows me knows how impatient I am. So I grabbed the ball of cocoa butter and rubbed it all over, paying special attention to the areas the needed some extra TLC.¬† This left my skin so smooth, I didn’t need any oil or lotion after. Perfect for winter months or dry patches.

I am glad I gave these bath oils another chance. I am realizing that everything I hate with Lush at second sniff or second try I actually do love. Snow fairy hated it, now I am actually using it a lot. These bath oils, I have so 2 buckets filled with every bath oil that lush has to offer and I have had them sitting there because¬†I didn’t think they were useful. Boy was I wrong. I am excited to start using them more. Stay tuned for more blog post about these lovely bath oils.
